Troy William Trent Obituary
Firefighter Troy William Trent, 42, of rural Bringhurst, passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020, at 6:10 a.m., from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident in rural Clinton County. He was born Jan. 16, 1978, in Lafayette, to his late father, Roger L. Trent, and his mother, Shirley J. Burns Trent, who survives.
He married Casie M. Francis at the Flora United Methodist Church on Oct. 3, 1998, and she survives. Troy graduated from Carroll Jr-Sr High School in Flora, and received his HVAC certification from Ivy Tech in Lafayette. He had previously worked for Helvie & Son's House Moving Service in Flora and Brenneco in Lafayette for four years, then was hired by the Lafayette Fire Department on Nov. 4, 2002. He began his career at Lafayette Fire Station 5, where he worked for 10 years, then moved to Station 3, where he worked for the past nine years. Along with his required certifications, he was also a certified EMT.
Troy loved being a fireman. He took great joy and pride in the job he did for the city and residents of Lafayette. He and his family attended the Bringhurst United Methodist Church. They enjoyed camping, boating and water activities, tinkering with cars and dirt bikes he would buy and sell, and target-shooting with his sons and close friends. He loved being involved with his sons' sporting events and helped coach them both in the many sports they played, and he and Casie were always in the stands at their school functions, supporting and cheering them on.
Troy also was on the Flora Monroe Township Volunteer Fire Department for five years. Troy was all about his family. He dearly loved them so much. Besides working, that was his greatest joy in life: spending time with them.
Surviving: wife Casie M. Trent, of Bringhurst; sons Cole W. and Owen L. Trent, both at home; mother Shirley J. Trent, of Bringhurst; brothers Justin L. Trent, of Cutler, and Brandon M. Trent, of Jeffersonville; in-laws Bob and Karen Francis, of Logansport; maternal grandmother Ruth Burns, of Flora; brothers-in-law Josh and Serena Francis, of Denver, Kane J. Francis, of Lafayette, Doug and Lacey Francis, of Kokomo; maternal grandfather Byrd Richardson, of Lafayette, formerly of Flora; three nephews and a niece, and one on the way in June.
He was preceded in death by grandparents. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until his funeral service at 3 p.m., at the River City Church, 108 Beck Lane, Lafayette, IN 47909, with the Rev. Larry DeVos officiating.
