Franklin, IN - Thomas Eugene Hipskind was born on May 15, 1936, to his parents, Lucille Pauline Hipskind and Philip Bernard Hipskind in Marion, Indiana. He had two brothers, John and Joe, and four sisters, Mary Ann, Pauline, Barbara and Sally.
He attended St. Paul's Catholic High School and Tri State University, majoring in Engineering before he wed Jenny Alice Brown and had three sons, Phillip, Tommy and Chris. His wife died from a blood clot in 1967 and left him widowed.
Three years later, he wed Lois Jean Resler, who had a son, Doug, and they together had Lisa. Lois died of cancer in 2009.
Tom's most enduring quality was his generosity. As a child, he had numerous paper routes, and sold candy, pop and popcorn at local ball games. With his earnings, he bought treats to share with his brothers, sisters and friends! He volunteered to coach Little League and tee-ball. He would regularly check in with his elderly neighbors. He helped his kids get jobs shoveling snow off driveways, endless grass mowing, selling pop at Soapbox Derby races and digging aluminum cans out of dumpsters, all the while working right alongside, never taking a dime for his efforts.
At family events, he would spend his time videotaping the entire event and offering to make copies for anyone who wanted a copy. These memories are some of the most cherished items in our homes as you can probably imagine.
Tom also had a small side business, Tom's Treasures, selling handy items to family, friends and strangers... giving away much more inventory than he ever sold. Remember those flashlights, back scratchers and cookers? He loved being so generous, and we will forever be touched by the way he loved us.
Tom loved playing cards and Rummikub, and following the Logansport Berries sports teams, the Cubs and IU and Notre Dame basketball and football.
Tom passed away peacefully on Aug. 5, 2025, in Franklin, Indiana.
He is survived by his sister, Sally; brother, Joe; four children; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. We love you! Enjoy your time in heaven, and we will see you soon!
