Phyllis M. Kochel, 75, of Logansport, passed away Monday, June 12, 2023, at McKinney Place.

She was born on April 23, 1948, in Linton, to the late Ernest F. and Thelma M. (Carroll) Nolting. Phyllis grew up in Winamac, and graduated from Winamac High School in 1966. On May 17, 1968, she married Ronald J. Kochel in Logansport. In 1987, they moved to Walton from Royal Center. She loved the farm life. Phyllis remained at home after Ron passed away on March 2, 2020. In 2010, Phyllis retired from Herd Seeder in Logansport where she had worked as an office manager for 31 years.

She attended Walton United Methodist Church for many years. Phyllis enjoyed line dancing and golfing. She was a woman of numerous talents. She made beautiful barn quilts, hand woven baskets, homemade dolls and rag rugs on an old loom. Phyllis enjoyed painting and flower gardening. She was very proud of her blue Dodge Challenger. Phyllis had a special way of connecting to those around her. She was loved by many, and will be dearly missed.

We wish to thank the amazing staff at McKinney Place for the tender and loving care provided to Phyllis over the past few months. She is survived by her siblings, Jerry (Joyce) Nolting of Newberry, South Carolina, Doris (Tony) Griffith of Cromwell and Fred (Jill) Nolting of Noblesville; a sister-in-law, Donna (Les) Wallace of Star City; as well as Several nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest F. and Thelma M. [Carroll] Nolting; her husband, Ronald J. Kochel; and her half-siblings, Ernest F. Nolting and Patricia Stewert. Graveside Services will be held at 11 a.m. EDT Friday, June 16, 2023 at the Winamac Cemetery (McKinley Addition) in Winamac, with Pastor Larry Zehring officiating. Burial will take place at Winamac Cemetery (McKinley Addition) in Winamac. Memorial Contributions may be made to Walton United Methodist Church or to McKinney Place.
