Lu Ella Bowman, 85, of Francesville, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville.

She was born on May 13, 1939, in Weaverville, California, to the late Norvin and Janie (McNeal) Hershman. Lu Ella grew up in Valparaiso, Indiana, and lived most of her life in Summit City, California, where she attended Community Baptist Church. She worked as a preschool teacher at church and as a CNA at a nursing home. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and VBS as well as caring for others. Lu Ella also enjoyed traveling, reading and listening to music. Most of all, she was proud of her son and grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Gary (fiancée: Barbie Potter) Bowman of Shasta Lake, California; two grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Geisler of Rochester, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Norvin and Janie (McNeal) Hershman; and two sisters, Leta Cooper and Clara Cheek. Cremation will take place at Frain Crematory in Winamac, Indiana. The family will host a memorial service in California at a later date. Online condolences may be offered at www.frainmortuary.com.
