Lorraine Ann
Lorraine Ann "Rainy" Shilling, 86, Logansport, passed away Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019, in Community North Cardio and Vascular Center, Indianapolis.
Born Nov. 30, 1933, in Fulton County, she was the daughter of the late Herbert G. and Ruth Hilda (Mellette) Cotner.
Rainy was a graduate of Logansport High School. During high school, she received vocational training that led to her graduating from Wright's Beauty College. Her 12-year career as a beautician started at Faye's Coiffeurs and eventually led to a shop in her home.
On May 30, 1954, in the Broadway Methodist Church, she was married to Rex Shilling, who preceded her in death on Aug. 8, 2004.
Rainy was longtime member of the Baptist Temple where she was active in the 4 "L" Sunday School Class. She also enjoyed the many friendships formed as a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and the Cass County Extension Homemakers Club.
A homemaker, her family meant the world to her and she wore the title of "Mom," "Grandma" and "Great-Grandma" quite proudly. Rainy loved tending to her rose garden. She had a mini apple orchard as well. Rainy was a talented seamstress and her creative side showed in the many quilts and crafts she made over the years. Since 1980, Rainy presented "The Kimberly Award" in memory of her daughter at the Cass County 4-H Fashion Revue.
Rainy is survived by two sons, Benjamin Shilling, Rapid City, South Dakota, and Brad (Polly) Shilling, Logansport; one daughter, Tamara (Eric) Minks, Logansport; grandchildren Jennifer (Andy) Rowcliffe, Allison (Stephen) Lathrop, Jesse Shilling, Evan Shilling, Joey (Krishanna) Shilling, Emily Shilling, Samantha (Chad) Roahrig and Guy Minks; and great-grandchildren: Maddie, Adelia and Logan Lathrop, Jared and Gemma Rowcliffe, and Lennon Lucille Shilling; and one great-grandbaby on the way.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly Sue Shilling; one grandson, Jared Shilling; and an infant sister, Louise Cotner.
A funeral service celebrating Rainy's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5 at Fisher Funeral Chapel with Dawn Fisher officiating.
Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4 in the funeral chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cass County 4-H Fair Association.
