Leland William Blohm, 94, Burrows, died at 9:20 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi. He had been a resident there for four months. He was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Monroe, Michigan to the late Albert and Selma Ray Blohm. His marriage was to Margaret A. Helvie in Young America, on June 15, 1947, and she survives.
He attended school in Monroe, Michigan. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Navy from 1942 to 1946 as a Gunner's Mate 2nd Class on a naval amphibious ship, serving in both the European and Pacific Theaters, D-Day invasion and several other missions. He worked for 40 years at Wolf Construction in Logansport, doing commercial construction and iron work and was instrumental in starting the union there, and was a member of the Laborers & Hod Carries Union. He was a former member of the Logansport American Legion. He enjoyed gardening and traveling with his wife. He loved his cat, Buddy.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret A. Blohm, Burrows; grandchildren, Richard and Marcela Johnson, Sulsue, California, Cheryl and Gerold Rood, Oklahoma, and Jennifer Blohm, Peru; sister, Ilene McCarty, Camden; dear friends, Chris and Jimmy Arion, Delphi and Della Frazier Barrett; nieces and nephews; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Friends may call Tuesday from 10 a.m. until his funeral service at 11 a.m. at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi, with Pastor Greg Britt officiating. Burial with Carroll County Honor Guard Military Rites will be in Burrows Cemetery.
