Lawrence E. MacLain, 80, of Kewanna, passed away unexpectedly at 7:55 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018 at his residence.
Born Feb. 16, 1938 in Kewanna, he was the son of the late Joseph Calvin and Rosa Nelle (Manes) MacLain.
Lawrence attended Kewanna High School. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving from 1956-1958. On May 20, 1958, he was married to Mabel Shidler of Thornhope at Sharon Church at Bruce Lake Station. She survives.
Lawrence retired from Dean Food Co. in Rochester after 21 years. He cherished his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved spending time with family and friends. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and watching the Chicago Cubs. Lawrence also enjoyed riding his bicycle around town.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel MacLain of Kewanna; daughters, Delores (David) Jones of Mt. Washington, Kentucky; and Carol (Gerry) Garrison of Elizabeth; sons, Steve MacLain of Kewanna and Jeff (Tommy) MacLain of Diamond Head, Mississippi; grandchildren, Justin and Derek Jones of Mt. Washington, Kentucky; Brent (Katie) Basham of Leitchfield, Kentucky; Bryce Basham of Leitchfield, Kentucky; Brayton MacLain of Kokomo; Maddy MacLain of Rochester; Andy and Jenna Bratcher of Leitchfield, Kentucky; and Robert and Brettney Basham of Hudson, Kentucky; and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Ruth (James) Hart of Plymouth and Emily Brown of Knox. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Hugh and Clifford MacLain and eight sisters, Mattie Rainey, Blanche Culver, Roxie Fry, Marilyn Zartman, Flo Conley, Gladys Stutzman, Merle Isaacs and Jessie Hines.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018 at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Kewanna Chapel with Rev. David Webb officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19 at the funeral home. Burial will be with Military Rites performed will be at Bruce Lake Cemetery.
