Josephine Rose Delaplane
Josephine "Jo" Rose Delaplane, 100, of rural Flora, passed away at 4 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020 at McKinney Place in Logansport where she had resided since Nov. 2019. She was born on Sept. 1, 1919 in Deer Creek Twp., Cass County, to the late Laurel and Sadie Hanna Beck.
She graduated from Carrollton High School in 1937 and South Bend Business College in 1938. Her marriage was April 14,1943 to James L. "Jim" Delaplane. upon his return from the U.S. Army Air Corps, they moved to a farm in Carrollton. They farmed in Carroll and Cass Counties until their retirement. Jim preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 2017. They were married almost 75 years.
She was a member of the Deer Creek Presbyterian Church where she served as Sunday school teacher, elder and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Presbyterian Women's Circle. Jo enjoyed traveling with Jim, gospel music, her flowers and gardens reading and her "kitty babes." She was close to her family and church family.
Jo is survived by two nieces, Vonda (Ron) Downing of Vevay and Jennifer Archibald of Flora, and a nephew Kevin Archibald of Clearwater, Florida; great-nieces and nephews Stephanie Good, Lindsay and Jason Calhoun, and Josh Downing; five great-great-nieces and nephews Braxton, Brecken, Brodrick and Braylin Good and Aspen Calhoun; several cousins including Steve and Jaque Delaplane and Bob and Deb Delaplane and special friends Terry and Tammy Bollenbacher and her church family. She was preceded in death by her infant brother, infant daughter Beth Ann, son Michael James, sister-in-law and brother-in law Claribel and Jim Archibald and her nephew John Archibald.
Funeral services will be at noon on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Deer Creek Presbyterian Church with Pastor Harry Roselle officiating. Friends may call two hours prior to services. Burial will follow in Center UB Cemetery, Cass County. Memorial contributions may be made to Deer Creek Presbyterian Church.
Cree Funeral Home, Camden, is assisting the family with arrangements.
