Kokomo, IN - John Lewis Yarling, 87, of Kokomo, passed away at 11:55 am Tuesday July 19, 2022, at his home. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on April 10, 1935, the son of the late Frank and Mildred (Goodrich) Yarling. He was happily married to Patricia Beard of Muncie, Indiana for nearly 50 years.

John was a class of 1953 graduate of Anderson High School and graduated from Depauw University in 1957, earning his medical degree through the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1961.

John owned and operated a private psychiatry practice for almost 30 years, and taught as an associate professor at IU School of Medicine. He later worked for Four County Counseling Center in Logansport for 26 years until his retirement in 2022.

He held memberships with several organizations, including the Indiana Psychiatric Society and Cass County Medical Society, serving as president for both organizations. John participated in the Muncie and the Logansport Rotary Clubs, as well as serving on the Board of Directors for the Fulton County United Way and the Community Foundation.

John enjoyed traveling with his wife, attending the Indianapolis 500, and doing home improvement projects. He loved being a doctor and helping others.

John is survived by his sons, Todd Yarling, Jonathan Yarling; grandchildren, Nathan (Stacey) Yarling, Brittany Tom-Wing; sister, Mary Beth Poehner; great-grandson, Jax Hargett; and nephew, Hal (Mary) Williams.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mildred Yarling; and wife, Patricia Yarling.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 7 pm Thursday July 28, 2022, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 East Main Street, Russiaville, IN 46979. Funeral service will be held 10 am Friday July 29, 2022, at the funeral home, with Pastor Steve Branstutter officiating.

Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden, with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team.
