John H. "Jack" Steinberger Obituary
Port Saints Lucie, Florida - John (Jack) Henry Steinberger passed away Monday, Dec. 8, at Treasure Coast Hospice, near his home in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. He passed peacefully at the age of 95, following a short period of failing health, with Sandra (Sandy), his wife of 45 years, at his side.
Jack lived a full and energetic life. He graduated from Logansport High School, attended Butler University for two years and then transferred to study Civil Engineering at Purdue University, participated in the Air Force ROTC program while in college, and served active duty at Fairchild Air Force Base, near Spokane, Washington, as the Civil Engineering Operations Officer in charge of the base facilities.
Upon completing his military service, Jack returned to Logansport where he engaged in the family construction business, developing Steinberger Construction, Inc. into a leading commercial and industrial construction business that has continued to grow and succeed for over 80 years.
Throughout his career he was active in the community, among other notable achievements being one of the founders of Camelot Care Center, which continues to serve children and young adults with special needs.
But best of all he was a wonderful husband, father, stepfather, grandfather and great friend to many people of all ages. He loved to socialize and entertain. He was also an avid outdoorsman, instilling a love of nature in all his kids, and a lover of outdoor sports including camping, fishing, hunting, boating, skiing and later golf. He was friendly, funny, hardworking and always maintained a positive attitude.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy; his sister, Mary; children, Jim (Pam), Bob, Beth, Tom (Patti), Don, and Carla, stepdaughter, Darci (Mike); grandchildren, Sara, Zach (Deidra), Jessica, Chase, Tana (Pete), Cole (Chelsea), Jill (Andy), Dustin, Kayleigh, Halle, Matthew, Geoffrey and Jonathon; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his first wife and the mother of his children, Barbara; son, Billy; and stepdaughter, Shelli.
Jack's remains will be cremated in Florida and then interred at his plot in Mount Hope Cemetery in Logansport.
Kroeger-Crain Funeral & Cremation is in charge of local arrangements. A public memorial service commemorating Jack's life is planned for a later date.
The family asks friends to simply celebrate his life. He lived a long, full, happy and healthy life, and passed peacefully, loved by many.
