Jeannetta L. Shafer Taylor
Jeannetta Lena Shafer Taylor, 98, of Logansport went home to be with her Lord at 10:58 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2019 at Century Villa Health Care Center in Greentown. She was born Feb. 16, 1921 in Logansport to Milton A. and Susanah S. (Knight) Dunkle.
On Sept. 3, 1937 in Crawfordsville, she married John D. Shafer. He preceded her in death in January of 1974. She then married Edwin E. Taylor on Sept. 28, 1990 in Logansport, and he also preceded her in death on April 9, 1995.
Jeannetta worked for RBM and Switches in quality control for many years. She was a union member and negotiator for the UAW. She was also a YWCA board member and president of the Southside Improvement Association in Logansport for several years. She encouraged education for her entire family. Her motto was college first before marriage. She enjoyed writing poems and doing crossword puzzles. She lived her life serving others and sharing her faith and belief in Jesus Christ.
She is survived by her daughters, Dr. Sue Ann Shafer and husband Dr. Robin Symonds of Kokomo and Dr. Kathy J. Shafer Morrical of Logansport; her grandchildren, Laura (Gary) McKinney, Terri (David) Stringfellow, Jo Lynne (Greg) Hall, John (Erica) Morrical and Michael (Amanda) Morrical; great-grandchildren, Stephanie (Michael) Cardwell, Patrick (Kayla) McKinney; Katie McKinney; Hannah Stringfellow; Grace Stringfellow; Darrell Hall; Owen Morrical and Maria Morrical; and great-great-grandchildren, Leah and Colin McKinney. She is also survived by her beloved nieces and nephews, Ann Helvie Byrom, Charlotte Helvie Hicks, Charles Helvie, Jean Gibson Lear, Roger Gibson and Kathy Gibson Williams.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two husbands John D. Shafer and Edwin E. Taylor and siblings James Dunkle, Tom Dunkle, Howard Dunkle, Katherine Helvie, Nora Maxwell, Ada Dunkle and George Dunkle.
A celebration of Jeannetta's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2019 at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston with Rev. David Stout officiating. Burial will follow in the Camden Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held from 4-8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to the Indiana University School of Nursing in Kokomo. Murray Weaver Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
