Helen Elizabeth Butzin Obituary

Helen Elizabeth Butzin, 95, Peru, passed away at 2:46 p.m. Sunday, May 13, 2018, with her family by her side.

She was born Sept. 23, 1922, in Logansport, the daughter of Elmer and Lottie (Johnson) Stephens. She married William F. Butzin Sr. on March 15, 1946, in Saint John's Lutheran Church in Peru.

She was a member of the Saint John's Lutheran Church. She took pleasure in baking decorative cakes for the local community for many decades. She was known around town as "The Cake Lady." She was also fond of growing flowers in her flower garden and enjoyed painting as well as playing the organ.

Helen is survived by her two daughters, Jane Schmehl of Logansport and Judy Kikendall (Dennis Kikendall) of Sanford, North Carolina; also, four grandchildren, Brian Schmehl (Stephanie) of Royal Center, Brent Schmehl and Doug Weaver of Logansport, Kurt Kikendall (Kim) of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, Kristi Sledge (Bob) of Garner, North Carolina; and 10 great-grandchildren, Angela, Seth and Emily Schmehl of Royal Center; Kyle, Kimberly and Kelly Kikendall of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina; and Andrew, Amanda, Joshua and Hannah of Garner, North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Butzin Sr.; a son, William F. Butzin Jr.; and five sisters and two brothers.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at St. John's Lutheran Church. Pastor Greenwald will officiate at the services. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Peru.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home.
