Gerald Lewis Hopkins, 93, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 7:30 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023, at Bickford Cottage in Wabash.
He was born on July 29, 1930, in Wabash, to George and Grace (Wysong) Hopkins.
Gerald was a 1948 graduate of Wabash High School, and a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He married Marie J. Fitzgerald in Wabash on April 7, 1951; she died March 31, 2009. Gerald was an electrician for 40 years, and co-founded Wabash Quality Electric. He also worked as an electrician at General Tire in Marion and Wabash. Gerald was affiliated with the Wabash Friends Church. He was a member of the Wabash American Legion, and the M.O.B. Antique Outdoor Motor Club. Gerald enjoyed fishing and collecting antique outboard motors.
He is survived by four children, Michael Hopkins of Logansport, Indiana, George Patrick "Pat" Hopkins and Colleen Gibson, both of Wabash and Kathleen (Tim) Gaylourd of Peru, Indiana; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Gene (Betty) Hopkins of Hendersonville, Tennessee.
He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Chaplain Adam Rhoads officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Riley Hospital for Children.
