Ellen Edith (Johnson) Herr, 102, Camden, passed away at 8:45 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018, at her home. She was born Oct. 13, 1916 at Deer Creek.

She was the daughter of Oral & Anna (Irwin) Johnson. On March 11, 1939, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Deer Creek, she married Robert Herr who preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 2005.

Ellen was a 1939 graduate of Deer Creek High School. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Deer Creek Crickets Alumni, and life member of the Helen Bonebrake Chapter #437 Order of the Eastern Star.

Ellen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed the neighborhood Euchre parties, and traveling with her brother, Lawrence, and sister-in-law, Mary Ellen. Ellen was a homemaker and lived and worked on the family farm her entire life. She enjoyed watching college basketball, especially Purdue.

Ellen is survived by her two sons, Emmett Herr, Greentown, and Harold (Kathie Yerkes) Herr, Deer Creek; grandchildren, Dr. Steven (Deanna) Herr, Jim (Kate) Herr, Kevin (Tracy) Herr, Neal (Ashley) Herr, and Melissa (Doug) Hendrix, along with 10 great-grandchildren.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter-in-law, Karen "Kay" Herr; brother, Lawrence (Mary) Johnson; sisters, La Von Johnson, Belva (Bill) Carter; niece, Evelyn Carter; and nephew, Kenneth (Nancy) Carter.

The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice and staff for the care that was given to Ellen during her illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, 44 S. Michigan Street, Burlington, with Pastor Marissa Tweed Harrison officiating. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery in Deer Creek. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
