Dorothy Luella Newton Baird, 95, Rochester, Indiana, passed away at 3:50 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022, at Memorial Hospital, Logansport, Indiana, surrounded by her family. We wish to thank the staff at Chase Center and Memorial Hospital for our loved one's care.
She was born on Oct. 6, 1927, in Seneca, Illinois, the daughter of Ralph Manley and Bessie Naomi (Byerly) Newton. On June 28, 1947, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, she married Charles L. Baird, who preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 2021. Together they had three girls.
Mrs. Baird was a homemaker, and worked at Kresge's Five and Dime, RBM, and retired from T.M. Morris Manufacturing in Fulton. Dorothy was an excellent wife and mother. She enjoyed these hobbies: cooking, baking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, making crafts and quilts. She loved her family, and was a generous caring person with a servant's heart to those around her.
Survivors include daughters, Nancy (Johnny) Thompson, Twelve Mile, Indiana, Stella (Hiram) Hoover, Grass Creek, Indiana, Karen (Bob) Mundy, Logansport, Indiana; nine grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; brother, Gerald Newton, Fulton, Indiana; sisters-in-law, Sharon Baird, Fulton, Indiana and Bonnie Newton, Riverside, California; several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Pete Newton, Riverside, California; sisters, Mary Ann Newton and Lois (Ronnie) Gundrum, Fulton, Indiana.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022, at the Fulton Community Center, E. Dunn Street, Fulton, Indiana. Friends may visit from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Fulton Community Center. Burial will be in the Fulton Cemetery, Fulton, Indiana. Arrangements by Zimmerman Bros.
