Donna Elizabeth (Kingery) Overholser, 87, Delphi, passed into heaven on Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Donna was born to Irvin Kingery and Fannie Fern (Bowerman) Kingery on Oct. 28, 1930, at their home near Flora.
She graduated from Flora High School in 1948 and worked as secretary for Wilcox Lumber Company in Flora until she was married. On Aug. 8, 1951, she married Dean Overholser, who was an officer in the Army at Fort Benning, Georgia during the Korean conflict. They moved to Bloomington in 1953 while Dean was in law school. In 1955, they began living in Delphi where Dean practiced law with George W. Obear.
For over 60 years, Donna was a member of the Delphi United Methodist Church and its Wesley Weds Class. She served the Church in many capacities including financial assistant, Sunday school teacher, meal helper and helper at the annual chicken barbecue. She was also a Girl Scout leader and delivered Meals on Wheels for several years. Donna had also been a member of Psi Iota Xi. She was employed by the Delphi Journal, which was renamed the Carroll County Comet at her and her husband's suggestion after the Comet Kohoutek in 1973.
Surviving with her husband of 66 years are her children, Martin Dean Overholser (Sandra), Orange, California, Gail Ann Overholser, Bringhurst, Vicky Fern Snipes-Sorrells (Lon), Delphi, and Susan Jane Fisher (Tim), West Lafayette. Also, surviving are her grandchildren, Aimee O'Connor (Rusty), Adam Snipes (Juli), Carly Eastin (Travis), Tony Fisher, Megan Bucur (Alec), Matthew Fisher, Lindsay Fisher and Ryan Fisher; and her great-grandchildren, Riley O'Connor, Addison O'Connor, Cole Snipes, Ayva Snipes, Ella Fisher, Victoria O'Connor, Jordan Eastin and baby on the way; and her son-in-law Dale Snipes. Donna is also survived by several nephews and a niece.
Donna was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Roxie Crispen and Hazel Flora; and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Delphi United Methodist Church, 1796 N. U.S. 421, Delphi. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with Rev. Todd Ladd officiating. Burial at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora. Psi Iota Xi service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial contributions to the Delphi United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, with envelopes available at the church. Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi is in charge of arrangements.
