Phoenix, AZ - Diamond (Benson) Mather, 96, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 11, 2025 while visiting family in Phoenix, AZ. She was kind, very generous, determined, and much loved by her family and friends.
Born in Windfall, IN. July 20, 1929 to Earl and Zelda (Russell) Benson. Diamond, along with Glenn Mather, graduated from Logansport High School in 1947. They married in 1949 and both graduated from Indiana University in 1951.
They moved frequently while Glenn served in the Korean War as an Army pilot and then thru medical school, internship and residency along with their two children. While Glenn completed his residency, Diamond taught at Perley Grade School in South Bend, a position she truly loved.
In 1965, they moved back to Bloomington. They celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in March 2009. Glenn passed away in June 2009. She was also preceded in death by her son, David, her older sister, Velma Dennis, her parents, and many beloved friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Mather-Boehm, her son-in-law, David Boehm, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, her brother-in-law James Mather, sister-in-law Ann (Mather) DeDona, and several nieces and nephews.
Diamond loved to quilt and could be found most Tuesdays quilting at the historic Wylie House. She was fascinated with genealogy, spending many hours searching through cemeteries and libraries tracking her family's history. Diamond and Glenn both loved to travel and visited all seven continents, including a trip to Antarctica.
A Celebration of Life for Diamond will be held on March 12, 2026 from 3 to 5 PM at the First Christian Church, 205 E. Kirkwood Ave. Bloomington, IN. All friends are welcome.
