Peru - Darren Matthew Ege, 51, of Peru, passed away at 5:53 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023, in Robbinsville, North Carolina.

He was born on April 20, 1972, the son of Dennis and Mary Lou (Engel) Ege. On June 7, 2008, he married Michelle (Helms) Miller, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and she survives.

Darren graduated from Maconaquah High School in 1990. He worked as a general manager in Logansport at Collins Parts & Supply Inc. - NAPA for 13 years. Darren enjoyed music, and played the tuba and trombone in the Maconaquah High School Marching Band. He played the bass/guitar and vocals in the band TripHammer for 26 years. He liked doing anything outdoors, but especially liked fishing, camping and yard work. He was an avid motorcycle rider, and liked playing with and pestering his grandkids. He was dedicated to his family, friends and work. He had an amazing sense of humor, and could bring an entire room to tears with laughter. Above all else, he was a gentle and loving husband.

Darren is survived by his father, Dennis Ege; wife, Michelle Ege; daughter, Janae (Carter) Waymouth; stepson, Darion Miller; grandchildren, Oaklee Waymouth, Kasen Hiles, Zoey Miller, Macy Miller, Kiara Hoff and Chase Miller; sisters, Teresa (Scott) Beckley and Cheryl (Michael) Ross; several nieces and nephews; and the "Regulators", his closest and dearest friends, Rick and Shannon Hiles and Chet and Anna Berry.

Preceding him in death were his maternal grandparents, John and Vera Engel; mother, Mary Lou Ege; and stepson, Nick Miller.

A celebration of life gathering will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, 2023, with a time of prayer and sharing to begin at 6 p.m. Friday at Riverview Event Center, 421 W. Canal St., Peru.
