Sylvia Washler Ruhl

November 03, 1923 - May 30, 2017

Sylvia Washler Ruhl, 93, Winona Lake, formerly of Logansport, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2017, in Grace Village Retirement Center where she had resided since 2003.
Born Sept. 3, 1923, in Butler, she was the daughter of the late John and Sada (Rose) Washler.
On May 20, 1948, in the EUB Church in Newville, she was married to Donald L. Ruhl. He preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 2011.
Sylvia earned her Bachelor of Science in Music Education at Ball State Teachers College. She taught music and business full-time for five years and many years as a substitute teacher.
When her husband was called into the Ministry, her role in life took on new meaning as well. As in the Book of Ruth, "Whither thou goest, I will go," became her mantra. She was a faithful servant to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and a wonderful helpmate to her husband as "the preacher's wife." The couple served in several Indiana E.U.B. and United Methodist Churches including Teegarden, Tabor, Nappanee, Whiting, Logansport, Rensselaer and Auburn. She considered Main Street United Methodist Church her "home" as Logansport was where her younger children grew up and many friendships were formed.
Sylvia was a faithful Chicago Cubs fan and lived long enough to see them win the World Series.
She is survived by three sons: M. John (Linda) of Machesney Park, Illinois, Benjamin Max (Deb) of Clarklake, Michigan, and Timothy Louis (Bobbie) of Stuart, Florida; one daughter, Jane Ann (John) Goodrich of Logansport; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Don Ruhl, Jr., who passed away May 29, 2016; one brother Louis A. Noirot; and one daughter-in-law, Cara Beth Ruhl.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Sylvia Ruhl will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 3 in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Pastor Damon Soper officiating.
Graveside services will be at Newville Cemetery, approximately 8 miles east of Auburn, Indiana, on State Road 8, at approximately 4 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Keith Schreffler officiating.
Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Friday, June 2 in the funeral chapel and one hour prior to the service at the funeral chapel, 1801 Chase Road, Logansport.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Main Street United Methodist Church or UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief).
