Rovena G. Ayers, 78, Walton, passed away Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, in Kindred Specialty Hospital, Indianapolis, after a long and courageous battle with pneumonia. Born Friday, June 23, 1939, in Campbellsburg, Washington County, she was the daughter of Joseph and Pearl Browning Lucas.
On June 14, 1959, in Campbellsburg, she was marred to John "Jack" Ayers, who preceded her on Oct. 18, 2017, just two and a half weeks ago.
Rovena retired in 2002 as an elementary teacher in the Southeastern School Corporation. She was a 1957 graduate of Campbellsburg High School and earned both a bachelor's degree and master's degree from Indiana University Kokomo.
Among her many activities were memberships in both Alpha Delta Kappa sorority, where she had been president and secretary, and Retired Teachers Association. She served as president of the Walton Main Street Association and secretary of the Walton Library Board. For 10 years she was a 4-H Association leader.
Rovena was a member of the Walton United Methodist Church, where she served in several offices over the years and was also church pianist.
Rovena was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by sons, Michael S. (Terri), Logansport, Brian P. (Lisa), Walton, and Kelly K. (Kelly), Logansport; daughter, Janalee S. (Bill) Kovacs, Whiteland; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several foster grandchildren; several cousins; her beloved colleagues, Elizabeth Billman, Donna Downham, Anita Blackman, Penny Schaefer and many others; also "adopted family," Ann and Robert Moore and family, Tom and Marsha Riggs, Ken Berry and Denise Morgan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Penny S. Lucas; and infant, Mary Jo Lucas.
Services for Rovena Ayers will be held at Kroeger Funeral Home in Logansport. Friends and family may gather to celebrate Rovena's life from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7. The funeral service will be held on at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, with Pastor Carolyn DeWitt officiating. Burial will be in Walton I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
