Robert's Story

Robert W. Eldridge, 92, Peru, passed away at 5:20 p.m. Monday, June 19, 2017.
He was born in Peru on Nov. 18, 1924, the son of Donald and Helen Murphy Eldridge. Bob married Dorothy Schmidt at St. John's Lutheran Church in Peru on Dec. 11, 1944, and she survives.
He was a 1942 graduate of Peru High School, a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He was employed by Fisher Body in Marion, where he retired in 1989.
Bob was a member of the Miami County VFW Post 2067, Glen Owens American Legion Post 14 and the Peru Maennerchor.
An avid fisherman, Bob was most passionate and dedicated to his family, espically watching his grandchildren's sporting events. In a quiet and unassuming manner, he placed his God and his family above all else in his life.
Surviving along with his wife are daughters, Sheri Moore and Darcy (Bruce) Ashby, both of Logansport; son, Richard Eldridge, Peru; daughter-in-law, Carol Eldridge, Logansport; sister, Betty Renshaw, Texas; grandchildren, Rob Moore, Melissa Robertson, Karrie Smith, Jennifer Sweet, Jeffrey Eldridge, Rich Eldridge, Ryan Eldridge, Tonya Bartholomew, Tisha Larkin, Tina Archer, Shane Dennis, Jeremy Dennis, Josh Ulery, Allison Ashby, Cale Ashby and Ethan Ashby; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Robert Jeffrey Eldridge.
A service celebrating the life of Robert W. Eldridge will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 24, at the St. John's Lutheran Church, 181 W. Main St., Peru, with the Rev. Kenneth Greenwald officiating. Burial will be in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery with military graveside services provided by the Miami County Military Rites Unit.
Family and friends will gather 4-7 p.m. Friday, June 23, at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main St., Peru.
