Ray Stroud, 99, Burnettsville, passed away at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, at White Oak Health Campus in Monticello.
He was born May 4, 1918, in Marengo to the late Emery and Anna (Taylor) Stroud. On Nov. 12, 1939, he married Bernice Nelson at the Christian Church in Monticello. She preceded him in death in January 2000.
He was a Marengo High School graduate and became a tool and die maker. He worked at White County Machine, Logansport Machine and retired from Switches in 1983. Ray was an outdoors man and enjoyed nature, cutting wood, gardening, fishing, including ice fishing and walking. He liked to go to Bullshippers on Saturday mornings with his grandson. He especially loved spending time with his family.
He was a member of Burnettsville First Baptist Church where he had been a deacon and trustee.
He is survived by three children, Donald (Judy) Stroud of Lafayette, Judy (Mike) Maddock of Burnettsville and Kathy (Bob) Hill of Lafayette; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by brothers Roy and Glenn Stroud and sisters Grace Clark, Murle Key and Kathleen Mix.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello with Pastor Paul Scott officiating. Burial will follow at Davis Cemetery.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to Burnettsville First Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
