Marilyn's Story

Marilyn Ledger, 79, of Sarasota, Florida, and formerly of Logansport passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018 at The Manor of Elfindale in Springfield, Missouri.
Marilyn was born Jan. 8, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan to Dora Spilkin Stein and Allan Stein. Growing up in Detroit, Marilyn married the love of her life, Laurence Ledger, on Jan. 12, 1958. For the first decade of their marriage they lived in Detroit.
In 1970, Marilyn and Larry opened Total Discount in downtown Logansport. A year later, they moved their family to Logansport from Detroit, and opened a second Total Discount store in Peru. Larry and Marilyn successfully ran their stores for 25 years. In 1995, they retired and moved to Sarasota.
Marilyn enjoyed golf, bingo and playing MahJong with her friends. She spent many hours volunteering at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Marilyn will be remembered as a kind, generous person who loved her children and grandchildren more than anything.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Allan and Dora Stein; husband, Laurence Ledger; son, Barry Ledger; and daughter, Deborah Ledger. She is survived by her son, Dr. Gregory Ledger; daughter-in-law, Molly Ledger, Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren Mari Driver, Cherokee, North Carolina, Brooks Ledger, Logansport, Alex Ledger, Boston, Massachusetts and Cole Ledger, Springfield, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Lawson and Lorrain Driver, Cherokee, North Carolina; and her sister Beverly Friedman, Scottsdale, Arizona.
A memorial service will be held in Logansport at a later date. Any condolences may be sent to 1437 South Clay, Springfield, Missouri.
