Larry Eugene "Gene" Hines, 78, Walton, passed away at 3:07 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, in the emergency room at Logansport Memorial Hospital after a massive heart attack.
He was born April 12, 1939, in Miami County, the son of the late Kenneth and Lois (Oswalt) Hines. On Aug. 23, 1959, he married Betty Lou Elliott, and she survives.
Gene was a 1957 graduate of Onward High School (Tipton Township). He served with the United States Army National Guard. Gene's passion was farming, which he did his whole life. From 1986 to present, he had assisted his son-in-law working funerals for Stout & Son Funeral Home in Russiaville. Gene was a member of Upper Deer Creek Church where he had also served as trustee and was a former member of the Russiaville Lions Club. As hobbies, he enjoyed collecting eagles and coins.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Betty Lou Hines; daughters, Debbie K. Hines, and Bethanne Stout (Jeff Larkin); son-in-law that was just like a son, Jeffrey A. Stout; grandchildren, Megan (Joel) Levi, Morgan (Kirk) Irwin, Jeffrey K. Stout (fiance, Courtney Gilman), Maddie Stout and Jacob W. Stout; great-grandchildren, Ava Glenn, Cameron Glenn and Dawson Irwin; and a sister, Hazel Elaine (Ronald) Dillman.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Lucille Elliott.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19 at Upper Deer Creek Church, 5019 E. 1400 South, Galveston, with Pastors Joe Coffin and John Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in Walton Cemetery.
