John William Ramsey Sr., 78, Akron passed away on Friday, Dec. 15, 2017 at 9:25 a.m. at his residence.
He was born on Sept. 26, 1939 in rural Fulton County to Verlin and Mabel (Hartzler) Ramsey.
He graduated from Akron High School in 1957.
On Feb. 24, 1958, he married Midge (Jernigan) Ramsey at the Akron Church of God in a ceremony officiated by Rev. Harold Conrad. Midge preceded him in death on March 31, 2009.
John was the owner/operator of O&R Buildings Inc. since 1965 and was still active in its day-to-day operation. He was a farmer and construction worker. He enjoyed watching college basketball on TV. Some of his favorite sports teams were the Boston Celtics, Green Bay Packers and whoever played against Notre Dame.
He is survived by four children, Deborah Ramsey, John W. (Penny) Ramsey Jr., Verlin (Beverly) Ramsey, Mark (Nancy) Ramsey all of Akron; one brother, Charles "Chuck" Ramsey of Fort Wayne, 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. at the Earl-Love Funeral Home, Akron. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor David Eaton of the Akron United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in at the Akron IOOF Cemetery.
