JoEllen Hempker, 70, Logansport, passed away peacefully at 12:05 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at Miller's Merry Manor. Born Oct. 16, 1946, in Lucerne, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Myrtle (Shaw) Cook.
JoEllen was a 1964 Pioneer High School graduate. She was a supervisor at the Logansport State Hospital and retired after 31 years. JoEllen was a member of Cross Wind United Methodist Church and she enjoyed shopping, crafts, crocheting, decorating for the holidays and spending time in Branson. JoEllen especially enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews and taking them on trips over the years.
Survivors include her sisters, Trish Grauel, Logansport, Lois Coffman, Logansport, and Becky Silance (Darrell), Logansport; and nieces and nephews, Carol Stumpf (John), Greenwood, Terry Silance (Manoush), California, Nita Emmerd (Charles), Logansport, Shawna Scherwing (Scott), Tucson, Arizona, Kevin Grauel, Logansport, Mark Kistler, Logansport, Barbara Taylor, Logansport, and Allison Andersen (Rick), Valparaiso.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, William Cook; nephew, Chuck Kistler; and brothers-in-law, Ernest "Bus" Grauel and Glenn Coffman.
