Janet Elaine (Chapman) Young

Janet Elaine (Chapman) Young, 87, of Logansport, began her journey home on Mother's Day. She rallied on Monday afternoon, talking and joking with her daughter, grandchildren, fiancé and the Memorial Hospital staff. On Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at 3:30 a.m. Janet completed her journey. She is now celebrating with her Heavenly family including her husband and sons.
Born Oct. 6, 1931, in Jasper County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Wilma Brooks Chapman.
On June 1, 1952, in Logansport, she was married to John R. "Jack" Young. He preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1994.
Following graduation from high school, Janet attended beauty college. She retired after working as a beautician at Faye's Coiffures for many years.
Janet attended the River of Life Christian Church. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Beta Sigma Phi.
Janet was an extraordinary daughter, wife, sister, mother and Christian. She was proud of her children Kathy, Rick and Mike, allowing them to be their own people and forgiving them for their mistakes.
Kathy writes: "Because she was my mother, she did everything well including knowing how to have fun." Janet once prepared for a non-existent birthday party with her friend, Mary Lou, by making cupcakes and punch. Her daughter, Kathy, with friends, Pam and Debbie, made fake invitations for a birthday party as a ploy to get gifts. All of the guests had a great time and all the birthday gifts were sent home with the guests. Janet had a great sense of humor and an empathetic heart.
She was always giving to others of her time and money, even when she had none to give. Her generosity will now live on in a unique way as a tissue donor through the Donate Life Indiana program. Her gift will impact the lives of several people she never even knew.
Her earthly family will miss her terribly. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Richard Pattee, of Logansport; her fiancé, Joe Shepler of Logansport; two sisters, Norma Boxell, Logansport and Wanda Zoller, Elkhart; grandchildren Mikki L. (Greg) Vincent, Jeremy (Kathleen) Pattee, Heather (Brett) Bane and Nathan Pattee; great-grandchildren, Seth and Richard; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sons John Richard Young, Jr. and Michael. A. Young, who both passed away in 2017; and one sister, Virginia Riedel.
A funeral service celebrating Janet's life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 18 in Fisher Funeral Chapel with Pastor Anthony Cozzello officiating.
Interment will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 1 p.m. Saturday until the time of the service in the funeral chapel.
