Hazel J. Cree, 86, formerly of Galveston, went home to be with the Lord at 3:27 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, at North Woods Village Healthcare Center in Kokomo.
She was born Sept. 15, 1931, in Hardwick, Kentucky, to Sidney A. and Elizabeth J. (Curtis) Easter. She married Donald Leroy Cree on Dec. 30, 1956, in Irvine, Kentucky. Don preceded her in death March 26, 1993.
Hazel worked as a nurse for Chase Manor in Logansport and Sycamore Village in Kokomo for several years before going to work for Delco Electronics. She retired from Delco in 1986. She enjoyed reading, mushroom hunting, shopping and gambling.
Surviving family include her children, James (Suzie) Jordan, Fort Wayne; Tonna (Casper) Burkhart, London, Kentucky; John (Mary) Jordan, Walton; Donna Baker (Tim Woller) of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; Donald Wayne Cree, Galveston; and William "Bill" and Pam Kaufman of Kokomo. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Joshua, Jennifer, John, Adam, Shawn, Jamie, Jacob and Danielle; and 17 great-grandchildren. One sister also survives her, Audrey Carter of Melbourne, Florida.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two great-grandchildren, five sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston with Pastor Steve Cole officiating. Burial will follow at Walton IOOF Cemetery in Walton.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston.
