Ernest J. Watson Jr., 98, Logansport, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017, at the Hearth at Stones Crossing in Greenwood. Born on March 7, 1919, in Logansport, he was the son of the late Ernest J. Watson Sr. and Katherine M. Heitzman. On March 31, 1946, in Logansport, he married Juanita L. Young who preceded him in death on May 26, 2012.
Ernie was an electrician and was the owner and operator of Watson Electric in Logansport. He also was formerly involved with his brother in running Watson's Appliance Store.
He was a lifelong member of Cross Wind United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #60, VFW Post #3790, William Paca Lodge #2366, Royal Center Order of Eastern Star Lodge #375 and Tipton Masonic Lodge #33. Ernie served in the Army during World War II and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts.
Surviving are two daughters, Kathy (Daniel) Rice, Greenwood, and Karen (Doug) Coddington, Mooresville; five grandchildren, Ryan (Judi) Coddington, Darryn (Kayla) Coddington, Monica (Chris) Wright, Alan Rice and fiancee Laura Zoibi, and Brett Rice; and great-grandchildren, Kayden Coddington, Camron Coddington and Drew Coddington.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Watson; and three brothers, Carl, Donald and Harold Watson.
A masonic service will be held at 1:50 p.m. in the funeral home.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2017, in the Gundrum Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Upton officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in Logansport with full military rites. Visitation will be held from Noon until the time of service on Wednesday.
