Charles "Chuck"'s Story

Charles "Chuck" Howell Rider, 79, Houston, Texas, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2018.
Chuck was born Feb. 22, 1938, in Delphi, Indiana, to Howell Keith Rider and Adeline (Hoover) Rider. He married Elizabeth Coatney of Bloomington on July 14, 1968, at McDoel Baptist Church.
Chuck attended Burnettsville High School. He obtained his GED and joined the U.S. Army. He served 22 years in the military and retired as a staff sergeant in 1982. He received many medals for his service including the Purple Heart. He was stationed in California, Hawaii, Germany, South Korea and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was then stationed at Fort Hood,Texas. He remained in Copperas Cove, Texas, and worked for the Texas Department of Corrections, retiring in 1996.
He always managed to stay in touch with his friends and family no matter where he was. He used the latest technology to keep up with nieces, nephews and cousins galore. He also loved cars, trucks and boats. His latest love was a bright yellow Camaro convertible.
He was a member of the Baptist Church of Lindale.
Survivors include: children, Loretta (Billy) Greenlund, Texas, Cathy (Larry) Dukes, Indiana, and Terry Davison, Indiana; daughter-in-law Angela Rider, Texas; siblings, Sue (Ben) Sands, Indiana, sister-in-law Joyce Rider, Indiana, Michael (Kathy) Rider, Indiana, and Judy (Ralph) Spangle, Indiana; grandchildren, Alyson Greenlund, Texas, Dawson Rider, Texas, Dylana Rider, Texas, Steven Dukes, Indiana, Michael Dukes, Indiana, Aaron Dukes, Indiana, and Terry Davison, Indiana; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by mother, Adeline, in 2009; father, Keith, in 1999; sister, Beverly, in 1937; brother, David, in 2009; wife, Elizabeth, in 2012; and son, William, in 2012.
Private family services and military rites are being arranged by Caudle-Rutledge-Daughtery Funeral Home in Lindale, Texas.
