Catherine I. Kimberling, 98, Kokomo, passed away the morning of Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017, peacefully in her sleep of natural causes.
She was born April 21, 1919, in Monticello, to Clifford H. and Elsie O. (Fisher) Reprogle. On July 4, 1937, in Logansport, she married her childhood sweetheart William E. Kimberling. She was devastated at his death on Oct. 22, 1999, but was thankful for the 62 years they had together. She was a stay-at-home wife and mother. When her children were growing up, they were some of the happiest years of her life. When she and her sister Athalia were children, they sang at a number of places including, among others, the opening of Ideal Beach (now Indiana Beach) at age 7, and the radio station WLS, Chicago at age 9. While her husband served in World Wwar II, she was a member of Civil Defense. She is a past member of the Hammond Christian Church, the Kokomo PTA, Pocahontas, the Happy-Go-Lucky Euchre Club, and the Eagles, who very kindly awarded her a guest membership upon her husband's death. She also worked for the Red Cross, the Cancer Society, and served on the election board several times.
She was an avid reader of history and enjoyed oil painting, crochet, knitting, sewing, and interior decorating. She was especially fond of the many trips she and her husband had taken all across the U.S as well as the many ballroom dances they had attended.
Catherine is survived by her daughter Elsie A. Smith and spouse Donald of Florida; her son William C. Kimberling who retired home from Washington D.C.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren, all of Kokomo; two nieces in Logansport and Lafayette; three nephews in Logansport and Flora; and a special nephew, Dr. W.J. Kimberling of Omaha, Nebraska.
Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, sister, step-grandson William H. Hartman Sr., and a special niece, Oneda McFatridge of Logansport; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel, 725 S. Main St., Kokomo, with burial to follow at Crown Point Cemetery.
Final respects may be paid to Catherine from 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral chapel.
